Is it fair to say that school shootings happen because we’ve taken God out of the schools? I saw a post recently that has made me think, it said:
“school shootings wouldn’t happen if god were allowed in school” Does god keep pedophilia out of church, tho?”
It broke my heart because I know that there are men and women in the church who abuse children. I also know how the church has covered these things up for years while telling girls they must’ve misunderstood. I wanted to respond right away to that post, but it was out of my old brokenness and anger for justice so I waited and contemplated. Having a relationship with God is a choice, and I know from some of my own depraved choices over the years that a relationship doesn’t take away our free will.
There’s too much tendency to attribute to God the evils that man does of his own free will. Agatha Christie
Therefore, Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him. Rooted and grounded him and firm in your faith, as you were taught. and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7
It’s our choice to receive Christ Jesus as Lord and it’s our choice to continue to live our lives in him. How many of us are ‘overflowing with thankfulness’? Sometimes it seems people can’t think of one thing to be thankful for. How would we ‘put God back in schools? We need to put God back in our hearts and choose to live our lives in him, rooted and grounded in him. I’ve struggled with blaming God for the actions and inaction’s of others but the truth is we choose how we live, not God. He shows us how to live abundantly but we have to choose it.
“But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Matthew 6:33
To be doing good deeds is man’s most glorious task. Sophocles
How do we respond to this world full of hurting broken people who break people?
